Recommended Equipment for Gravel Travel
Jacket
A textile, breathable off-road rally jacket. The latest Hein Gericke Tuareg range is very good.
Trousers
A pair of textile, breathable off-road rally trousers.
Boots
A pair of motocross or enduro type boots, road type boots are not suitable.
Body armour
Vest type body armour is preferable with shoulder, back, elbow, chest and kidney protection.
Knee guards
Motocross or enduro type knee guards.
Gloves
A pair of motocross or enduro type gloves.
Rainwear
A lightweight waterproof pac-jac type jacket and trousers in the event of heavy rain.
Hydration/Rucksack
This is essential equipment, 3 litre water capacity required. The very best manufacturer for these is Kriega, they sell direct too!
Crash helmet
We recommend the use of a full-face off-road rally-type helmet such as the Arai Tour-X or the Airoh S4. The visor is needed to prevent the hot wind from burning the face. Failing that a full-face motocross or enduro helmet with goggles can be used.
