Team Profiles
Ralf Moeglich
Many years of experience in international motocross, enduro and rally sports on a motorcycle brought him to Namibia during the Paris-Cape Town Rally where he developed the idea to offer off road motorcycle holidays in this Namibia. Since 1993, Ralf has personally led Gravel Travel motorcycle tours in Namibia.
Reiner Schuster (Renno)
He has participated in the Namibian tours for many years and is therefore well-known amongst the majority of our former participants. The previous motorcross professional had to put in a short break from our tours as his assistance as a suspension specialist was required during the Motorcross World Championships. As the championships are now over, we are pleased to welcome our "Marlboro Man" (an absolute all-rounder) back onto the team.
Mike Swanepoel
The most recent addition to the team is Mike Swanepoel from Windhoek. Mike and Ralf met at a motorcross race in Windhoek many years ago. He was amongst others the South African Motorcross Champion and also won several championships in Namibia. Due to a severe injury Mike had to withdraw from the sport and opted to become the Namibian KTM dealer. He joins the Gravel Travel team as mechanic, guide and instructor.
Andy Mayer
The majority of our Kaokoland participants will definitely remember Andy. We believe that he is a fantastic expert in terms of northwestern Namibia, but he has at times also led some of the Classic tours for us. He has been preparing our Kaokoland camps for more than 10 years and his culinary skills and campfire stories are unforgettable. Andy is also the main guide for our off-road tours.
GRAVEL TRAVEL GERMANY
Annette Tollkühn
Annette has excellent first hand knowledge of Namibia and organises the team from Germany.
GRAVEL TRAVEL TRAVEL UK TEAM
Charles Norwood
Charles is a highly experienced expedition organiser and has participated in major expeditions all over the world, including crossing the whole of Africa by road several times – once in a fire engine! He has driven between London and Kathmandu more times than he cares to remember and once escorted a black cab between London and Sydney. He is Managing Director of Safari Drive and looks after Safari Drive logistics and uses his wealth of expedition experience to advise on the more adventurous trips. His interests include motor bikes, paragliding (obsessively) and rock climbing.
Rupert Upton
Rupert has long had a passion for Africa and for off-road motorcycle riding, and enjoys riding in Turkey and Spain as well of course as in Namibia. He competes in UK enduros and rallies on a Yamaha. Like Shaun he has a background in the courier industry.
Shaun Merrick
Shaun has many years of off-road motorcycle riding experience in Andorra, Spain, Morocco and the Alps and has considerable experience in leading expeditions to all these areas. Shaun also runs a courier company in Manchester.
